Who we are
1981
The National Youth Development Council (NYDC) was first established in 1981 as an inter-agency body with the primary mandate of diagnosing factors that were contributing to youth unemployment and devising effective strategies to increase employment opportunities for the youth under the Ministry responsible for youth affairs.
1986
In 1986 it became a Public Institution established by an Act of Parliament No. 7 of 1986 as amended by Act No. 13, Cap 144 of 1994.

Our Works
The Mandate of the Council is to register youth organisations in the country. In undertaking its mandate, the Council performs the following core functions as outlined in the Act of Parliament, No. 7 of 1986
- i. To advise the Minister on programmes relating to youth development
- ii. To coordinate youth activities
- iii. To assist and encourage organisations interested in youth development in the initiation of youth training and development programmes
- iv. To evaluate and implement youth programmes
- v. To initiate, operate and manage non-profit making or profit making projects in support of youth development and
- vi. Such other functions as the Minister may, from time to time direct.
